Hawk Shop Update
As the weather changes, visits to the Hawk Shop increase. We are delighted to be able to help any family so that they can focus their financial resources elsewhere. We continue to be able to provide hygiene supplies, clothing, and other essentials.
Many often ask how they can help. Here is a list of items we need new, in packaging. Thank you for considering:
Male underwear sizes 4/5, 8, 16, 18
Female underwear size 4/5
Hairbrushes
Apex Glow Run is back!!!
After fall break we will begin our Apex fundraiser! Last year we raised about $4,000 that went toward our 50th anniversary funds! Thank you for all your support with this! This year, we would love to top that, with our focus being on staff and student care! Our students LOVED the Apex crew, who come and give daily mini lessons on sportsmanship, courage, and leadership skills! Please be on the look-out for more information on this fundraiser!

We are excited that the Olathe District Elementary Honor Choir will be meeting and performing once again this year! This choir is open by audition to any Olathe 5th grade student who loves to sing and is willing to make the commitment to attend rehearsals. As a “district” choir, the goal is to have representation from all of our elementary buildings if possible. Please take a look at the attachments and registration forms if your child is interested! I would LOVE to see Havencroft represented!

Johnson County Truancy Policy- Please Read
Truancy is prosecuted as a Child in Need of Care case. Under state law, children between the ages of 7 and 18 are required to attend school. If a child is deemed truant by his or her school, then a referral is made to the District Attorney's Office. Upon receipt of a truancy referral from the school, our office has discretion about how that case is processed.
Kansas statutes provide that a student is "truant" if they are absent without excuse, for a "significant portion" of the school day, for three consecutive days, or five days in a semester, or seven days in a school year. When that occurs, then the school is to provide notice to the student's parent or guardian. Once notice is received, then any further unexcused absences trigger a report to the District Attorney's Office.
If a truancy case is filed in District Court, then the assigned Judge has discretion to formulate a plan designed to meet the child's needs and get the child to attend school. In some instances, the State may proceed informally and refer the child to services. In other instances, the court will direct the child be monitored on a formal "truancy plan." If the child is placed on a truancy plan, a court services officer will supervise the child's attendance, and work with the child and family to make sure the child attends school. In extreme cases, the court has the authority to place a child outside the home to make sure the child gets an education.
For more information on truancy, please contact our office at (913) 715-3000.

Arrival: The doors to the building do not open till 8:00am. There will be NO ADULT SUPERVISION before 8:00am, so please be mindful about what time you drop your children off.
Dismissal: School dismisses at 3:40. Please make sure to be prompt in picking up your child(ren) from school. If your child is a walker, they will be dismissed at the front of the building where they will communicate with their teacher when they see their adult or have permission to walk home. Car riders will be dismissed from the gym. Parents will stay in their cars and move along the west side of the building to pick up their child. Each car must have a car rider number in view. If you do not have your number, you will be asked to go inside to get your number printed.
MULTI-TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORTS (MTSS)
Our district has implemented a system of supports to help your student be successful in the areas of Academics, Behavior and Social Skills. The Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a state-wide initiative that is designed to systematically ensure that students are receiving the time and support necessary to learn the intended curriculum.
In MTSS, there are varying levels of supports called “TIERS” that are defined by their increasing intensity of support. All students are part of MTSS and all students receive Tier 1 support. When students need additional support beyond Tier 1, a team of teachers and staff members review all data in order to provide support in the areas of Reading, Math, and Behavior.
All students receive core instruction at the Tier 1 level. When students need additional support, research-based interventions are implemented with on-going monitoring of progress to ensure the student is responding to the intervention. The teacher providing the intervention will monitor your student’s progress. The data is then analyzed by a team of teachers and recommendations made regarding the appropriate next steps.
We are committed to help your child be successful and look forward to seeing them grow so much this year!
